Description: Marine Park Golf Course was designed by Robert Trent Jones this links course built off Jamaica Bay is, at nearly 7,000 yards the longest the city. Factor in the steady in-your-face wind that always seems to blow off the bay make it seem like 8,000 yards.
While always boasting wonderful greens, American Golf Corp will be managing the facility, at least, through the beginning of 2009 and is already hard at work bringing the rest of the course up to those standards.
Having already clean-up all the overgrown greenery, opened a new state-of-the-art, full service pro shop and added a fleet of brand new golf carts are only a few of the improvements already in place.
Directions: Belt Parkway to Exit 11N; Make left at 2nd light.
Mass Transit: Take No. 2 or 5 train to Flatbush Ave. (last stop) then Q 35 bus.

Bill's favorite hole: Number 3. This very long (445-yard) Par 4 features a narrow landing area. The second shot is invariably with a three wood to a shallow, elevated green, guarded on both sides by bunkers. Like Nos. 1 and 2 this hole normally plays into the wind!
By: Billy MayesWOW!!! What a change that has been made over the few months by either American Golf or the Parks Department ground staff. I know the course is in new ownership (American lost out to someone), but before the bids went in the course was looking sharp. Rough was neat and tidy, fairways were the best I've ever seen at this course and the greens were fantastic. The greens are the hardest of any public course in the city in my opinion. A great test of putting!! So now that its in new hands lets hope they keep the standards up and improve the areas where we know it needs improving like the bunkers - sand would help, drainage, to many bare areas around. Its nice to play for a change. |
By: STEW SILBERTDON'T BE FOOLED BY THE GOOD CONDITIONS AT THE COURSE OR THE BS SOME OF THE AMERICAN GOLF STAFF TELLS YOU. THE REASON THE COURSE IN AS GOOD A CONDITION IS FROM THE HARD WORK AND IMPROVEMENTS MADE BY THE PREVIOUS VENDORS WHO WERE WRONGFULLY DISCHARGED. THE CURRENT MANAGEMENT OF AMERICAN GOLF IS ONLY IN IT FOR THE MONEY, AND DOESN'T CARE ABOUT THE PLAYERS, THE CORSE OR THE COMMUNITY. AFTER REGISTERING COMPLAINTS TO THE PARKS DEPARTMENT, AND THE MANAGEMMENT OF AMERICAN GOLF ( NO REPLY FROM EITHER ) SOMETHINGS WERE BEGRUDINGLY CORRECTED. IE. 1 EXTRA WATER POSITION AT HOLE # 10 ( NO WATER ON 7/25/08). IT STILL TAKES A ATLEAST 5 HOURS OR MORE TO FINISH A ROUND, NO RAGERS DOING ANYTHING ON THE COURSE TO SPEED UP PLAY, NO CASUAL FOOD SERVICE OR REFRESHMENT CART AS ADVERTISED ON THE WEBSITE. NO RECIEPTS FOR PARKING CHARGES. MANAGEMENT HAS AN ATTITTUDE PROBLEM AND IS VERY CONFRONTATIONAL ON ALL ISSUES. IT IS EVIDENT THEY ARE THERE ONLY FOR THE MONEY, I WOULDN'T BE SURPRISED THAT IF THEY WERE INVESTIGATED WE WOULD FIND OUT THAT THEY ARE PROBABLY SHORT CHANGING THE CITY OF IT'S FEE'S OTHER THAN THAT IT'S ONE OF THE BEST COURSES IN THEY CITY. |
By: martini learned to play golf at marine park. after 20 years of mismanagement, the City brought in new management. These kids put their whole heart and opened their pockets building a state of the art pro shop and getting the course back in good shape. They even began construction of an enclosed nettted driving range. What does the City do? some genius finds out they had a relationship with a known mobster through non family connections. So what,at least these guys put money into the course and worked their butts off to make it work. I hope they sue to recoup the monies spent and appeal their ouster. They were the best thing that happened to a city course in 20 years. the jerk in the post that reported his wonderful story, i hope got a big promotion at the expense of the golfing public. who comes in but American Golf, gimme a break! |
