I've been playing this course since it opened.
Marine Park Golf Course has never been given a chance to reach its potential. The only management company in there that was finally doing something is now losing their contract - beats me?
It is a great course to walk, as it is relatively flat. Always a little cooler as it's right off Jamaica Bay and always breezy which makes every shot difficult.

I learned how to play at Marine Park Golf Course and it remains my favorite. My favorite hole happens to be the "18th" for many reasons but the most important one- 'first time I ever hit par'

I played at the Marine Park once and found it a great course to walk. I didn't lose a ball playing there that day, which means it is a good course for beginners. However, the Marine Park's par 4's are pretty tough because of their length while par 5's seem quite reasonable. I got up in regulation in all of par 5, but the well-maintained greens were pretty tough. Still I birdied the par 5 tenth hole, which made my day. For approach shots, beware of the wind from the Atlantic. On the par 3 seventeenth (177 yards from the white tee), I sailed over the green with my 5 iron which usually carries about 170. All in all, the Marine Park course is a must for NYC golfers.

This course was recently taken over by a great group of people who are trying to improve this wonderful course. Very long and the greens are great. Must be in the fairway to have a chance to score low. Par 3's are very tough but par 5's fair and chance to make birdie.

Hopefully the new management team will stay in place because they are doing a wonderful job. This is the best this course has been since I started to play here 9 years ago.

This course is a great course to walk-there aren't that many hills but be assured that some of the greens are very challenging.

There is a marked difference in the management of the course this year and it's not for the better. I have found the staff in the Pro Shop (often very young girls)can be very rude and uninterested. A "manager" there didn't know that you can have a GHIN handicap without having purchased one through Marine Park Golf Course. Additionally, the staff out on the course itself is for want. On one weekday, there were eight people playing together on the back nine. And on another weekday, we ran into a backlog on the turn very late in the morning (10:30AM). It appears that the staff is allowing people to play the back nine as late as 10:30AM!!!

All in all a great course, but with potential for some very unpleasant experiences if the management doesn't get their game together.

I confirm the sentiments of the rudeness of the current staff & ownership of the comments posted by George. You can compare the way it's run to Tony Soprano's crew! Bring on American Golf or the Forest Park ownership to run it!!

A great value at twilight. First time I've played the back 9 in 3 years. The fairways and greens are cut beautifully. Bunkers and chipping areas still need substantial work to allow for fair play. Par 3's are the toughest in the city. With the wind off the bay, this course plays substantially longer than the 6600 yards on the card. Definitely a challenge for any level player. I'm not sure why the slope rating is as low as it is. I'll be back with friends when the new management company takes over and cleans up the chipping areas.

The grounds have been deplorable lately. I am disgusted with the lack of care taken. I also have to pay more money that the previous owner to play there. Why, because they built a new pro shop and coffee shop?

I will no longer play there. The city owes the local golf afficianatos an explanation as to why we pay more for conditions that are sub par.

decent course. I play there once to twice per week. Been playing here for the past ten years. Definitely not the on par with the other brookyn course in terms of upkeep. Dyker is usually in better condition but harder to get on. The greens are usually well-maintained. Lots of dirt patches in the fairway. The consistency of the bunkers are uneven, most have construction-grade sand. The course in challenging, however. The wind, the lenght, and some of the greens make it a tough course. New management was doing a great job, however since their status is in limbo, they have stopped most work.

BOB-
FYI, Marine Park charges the same rates as the courses run by American Golf...$39.50 + $3.00 reservation fee (weekend rate). The new owners have made many improvements, and continue to do so. I've had the opportunity to meet Dominick, the GM. He is a true gentleman, and seems to know how to run a business. Once they solve their issues with the city, this course will rival some private CC.

It is a shame when someone who cares so much about the game of golf and was trying to make a difference in a golf course . I have played their several times over the course of the summer the new management was going to make it a wonderful up to date course and the city tossed them to the street .I will never step foot on that course again. As for the conditions of the course it is the city who owe the people an explation, not the management they were trying as best they could, we will miss them.

i learned to play golf at marine park. after 20 years of mismanagement, the City brought in new management. These kids put their whole heart and opened their pockets building a state of the art pro shop and getting the course back in good shape. They even began construction of an enclosed nettted driving range. What does the City do? some genius finds out they had a relationship with a known mobster through non family connections. So what,at least these guys put money into the course and worked their butts off to make it work. I hope they sue to recoup the monies spent and appeal their ouster. They were the best thing that happened to a city course in 20 years. the jerk in the post that reported his wonderful story, i hope got a big promotion at the expense of the golfing public.
who comes in but American Golf, gimme a break!
