Filed under: Golfing News — BCGolf @ 8:44 am

Listed below is information listed on historicgolftour.com. A small group of enthusiastic golfer’s arranged to play some really great golf courses. Contact them directly through their website for more information. The first event is at St. Andrews in Westchester County. Then they play one event per week.

If anyone plays at Metuchen, Shackamaxon, or Suburban, please stop by Hyatt Hills Golf Course in Clark and say Hello!

On the Historic Golf Tour® you:
● play golf on 15 historic old courses.
● get to play the Old Course in Scotland.
● enjoy lunch in the grandeur of historic clubs.
● improve your game with fun and fair competition.
The Tour
If you think of yourself as a keen golfer; if you enjoy fun and fair competition; if you want to tee-up with a group of golf enthusiasts just like you…then this is your ticket to fun, camaraderie and a great chance to win a St.Andrews golf-vacation. The Historic Golf Tour® is 12 individual full-handicap stroke-play, and 3 match-play amateur golf tournaments set on historic courses around north Jersey. You can play in as few or as many events as you want. At each tournament, you can win Prizes Dollars which accumulate towards an expense-paid golf vacation to St.Andrews, Scotland, the birthplace of golf. There you play the Old course, and three more championship courses. Here in the Tri-State area, you’ll get onto courses designed by the famous architects including Travis, Tillinghast, Raynor, Emmet, Willie Park Jr., and “Steamshovel” Banks. You’ll be treated like a member-for-a-day at fifteen different clubs rooted in the Golden Age of golf – from America’s oldest private club (Saint Andrew’s in 1888), to Jersey’s oldest (Morris County in 1894). From Plainfield to Glen Ridge, and Suburban to Somerset Hills, you will feel the pressure of having to make putts, and the fun of playing renowned historic courses. You’ll strengthen your game and build a competitive edge, and so will become a better player, and gather with a great bunch of new friends too.
The Courses
For the Historic Golf Tour® sophomore 2008 season, you will play on fifteen unique and significant courses. The clubs and members you come in contact with at each tournament show a hospitality common only in the sport of golf. These private courses are beautifully maintained, and the clubhouses are havens from the outside world. Those dour Scots who were the first to toil over the coastal links there land would not have imagined the level of luxury you get to enjoy at these clubs today. Are you ready?

The Prizes
At each Tournament, you could win the claret jug trophy, St.Andrews Prize Dollars (which you accumulate through the season), a “blind” match-play, a Skill Prize (closest-to-the-pin or longest drive at some tourneys) and points toward the Playoffs – a Ryder-Cup team competition. Plus, everyone playing the opening Tournament at Suburban will receive a free Historic Golf Tour®-logo shirt. You could use the St. Andrews Prize Dollars you earn to win a golf trip to the Home of Golf in Scotland. Or, use them for free Registration or Tournament Entries next season. But you must be a Registered Player to be eligible to win Tournament Prizes, and the field for the 2008 Season is restricted to 28 golfers. So, get your registration payment in today.
The Trophy
Your name, as Champion, will be engraved on this Historic Golf Tour® trophy if you accumulate the most Prize Award Dollars through the 12-Tournament Season. And if you win an individual Tournament, you get to proudly display the trophy on your desk or mantelpiece for that week.
The Season
Pre-season is when you need to get registered if you want to win prizes and go to St. Andrews. The Season’s opening event is on May 22nd with one tourney a week thereafter, so get your game ready. The post-season is for the top 8 Registered Players to compete in Ryder-Cup-style Playoffs, and, in mid-October, registered players are eligible to fly to Scotland for a most memorable week of golf.
Handicaps
You start your 2008 HGT tour with the handicap you earned at the end of last season. If you are new to the HGT this year, you will be assigned an HGT-handicap based on the five best of your last twenty-five GHIN scores. The HGT- handicap program will adjust up or down by up to 2-strokes according to your Tournament net score.
Why you should join up now
You’ll be interested if you’re looking for a golf group in northern New Jersey, a golf league, golf competition, you enjoy golf history, you’re a golf club member, or play semi-private or public courses and your handicap is 24 or lower, you want to play St.Andrews in Scotland on the Old Course, and you respect golf etiquette and the honor of the game, prefer a 4-hour golf round.
FAQs
What’s the average ability-level of HGT players? The majority of handicaps will fall between 5 and 18, with gross scores ranging from the high 70’s to 80’s. But there will also be a handful who shoot either low-70’s or over-90.
How many events must I enter? Your choice…if you want as good a chance as possible to win the Prize, you should enter them all, but if you’re joining to entertain clients or just play certain courses, then enter as few as you wish.
With handicapping, how do you avoid bandits? We use the CONGU system for setting and adjusting handicaps (up and down) to ensure a fair and current true handicap. Our proprietary software helps ensure equality.
What’s your slow play policy? We have rules designed to keep rounds to 4 hours or less. And you can always use a caddie.

  3. Looking forward to another fun season. Hopefully I can qualify for the Ryder Cup playoff matches because I am a match play monster. In fact last week I beat Henrik Stenson 10-8 and Eldrick Woods 10-8 in match play. Then the alarm clock went off…..
