About Us
Having seen the good, bad and ugly of the cityās golf courses for more than 25 years the members of Team Golfinnyc decided to stop talking and do something positive for the New York golfers.
Bill and Marian Castner originally launched this site, and with the new design and a larger team we hope to open the eyes of New Yorkers and everyone else to the wonderful golf opportunities that can be found in and around New York City.
Bill Castner
I have seen a lot of Golf in NYCā since I began caddying on the links of Dyker Beach Golf Course in Brooklyn at age 15. From junior golfer advocate to PGA professional to Course Manager to a golf course operator, I have done it all in every borough of NYC. I possess a good pulse on what happens at the NYC golf courses.
Teaching golf for more than twenty-five years, I am a Master PGA Professional and the Director of Instruction at the Hyatt Hills Golf Course in Clark, NJ. In 2001, T&L Golf Magazine selected me as one of the Top 50 Instructors. New York City golf is in my blood!
Marian Hausman Castner
After a long career in the financial world, Marian switched directions and now enjoys working in the worlds of: golf, writing and motherhood. Luckily, she was able to combine them together and is a freelance writer for several golf magazines and newspapers, and this website. She is also working on some independent writing projects.
Marian credits her high school English teacher, best-selling author Frank McCourt with her writing style and her husband, Bill, for sharing with her his passion and knowledge of the game of golf.
Bill Farrell
A reporter, columnist and boxing writer for more than 30 years at the New York Daily News, Bill Farrell has an exceptional knowledge of the diverse neighborhoods of New York. Born and raised in Brooklyn he fell in love with golf from television watching Palmer, Player, Nicklaus and Snead. Before that he thought a golf course was nothing more than a great place to ride your sled after a winter snowfall. These days a winter snowfall means its time to take out the orange balls.
Bill has just currently finished writting a book “Cradle of Champions 80 Years of the New York Daily News Golden Gloves” about the The Daily News Golden Gloves amateur boxing tournament which has been an institution in New York City for more than three quarters of a century.
