The most diverse of all the five boroughs, Queens also has offers the most golf courses. Beyond the four 18-hole layouts scattered across the borough, Queens is also offers the only night golf in New York at two pitch-and-putt golf facilities.
And according to Mike Tafit whose family operates the Par 3 course at Flushing Meadows (the other is at Riis Park) the facility gets more play at night than during the day. Don’t expect to play into the wee hours of the morning - the last group goes out at 11 p.m.
A trip to the four championship layouts will have you crisscrossing the city’s largest (by land mass) borough. Douglaston Golf Course is located at eastern end of the Queens just off the Nassau County border. Clearview Golf Course the city’s busiest golf course (77,650 rounds in 2005) is located at the north end not just off Little Neck Bay and Bayside. Forest Park Golf Course is at the western end of Queens just across the Brooklyn nestled between the neighborhoods of Woodhaven and Glendale.
At the heart of Queens is Flushing, home to Kissena Golf Course which stretches east from Flushing Meadows-Corona Park.
The site of the 1939 and 1962 World’s Fair’s Flushing Meadows-Corona Park is the largest park in Queens and the cultural hub of the borough. Best known for Shea Stadium (home of the Mets), the Unisphere, and the United States Tennis Association National Tennis Center, the park offers much more to the visitor.
Inside its 1,255 acres you’ll find the Queens Museum of Art, the New York Hall of Science, the Queens Wildlife Center and the city’s largest lake the 84-acre man made Meadow Lake.
And, with all its cultural diversity a journey through Queens is a movable feast with foods and flavors from every corner of the world.
